Hello dear friends! Today, I want to introduce you to one of the most amazing and mysterious villages in Iran: Makhunik Village, known as the land of Iran's Lilliputians. It might interest you to know that this village is recognized as one of the seven most astonishing villages in the world! So, join me on a virtual journey to this fascinating village.
Where is Makhunik Village? Makhunik Village is located in South Khorasan Province, Sarbisheh County, Central District, and Darah Rural District. The village is situated 125 kilometers southeast of Birjand and 78 kilometers from Sarbisheh, with a distance of about 35 kilometers from the Afghanistan border.
Why is Makhunik called the land of Lilliputians? One of the main reasons for this nickname is the short stature of its inhabitants. In the past, the average height of adults in Makhunik was about 140 centimeters. Researchers believe that factors such as poor nutrition, genetics, and harsh environmental conditions contributed to this. However, today, with improved living conditions, the height of the villagers has approached the national average.
Unique Architecture of the Village The houses in Makhunik are built with a distinctive and unique architecture. These homes are constructed from stone, wood, and clay, featuring low ceilings. The small doors and windows are designed to withstand extreme cold and heat.
Culture and Traditions Until a few decades ago, the people of Makhunik had specific beliefs and customs. For instance, they considered drinking tea harmful and refrained from consuming it. Additionally, smoking and certain other habits were deemed sinful. These beliefs reflect the unique and distinct culture of this region.
Tourist Attractions in Makhunik Besides its architecture and culture, Makhunik offers other attractions:
Makhunik Tower and Fortress: These historical structures showcase the rich heritage and history of the village.
Petroglyphs: Ancient carvings that speak of the area's ancient past.
Pristine Natural Landscapes: Beautiful, untouched nature that captivates every visitor.
Experience Traveling to Makhunik Visiting Makhunik is a unique and memorable experience. Interacting with the kind and hospitable locals, tasting local dishes, and observing the distinctive architecture of the houses are all part of the village's charm. I highly recommend setting aside time to visit this astonishing village.
